Ex-Imo Deputy Governor Madumere Celebrates Mbaise Yam Festival, Calls for Unity and Cultural Preservation

Former Imo State Deputy Governor, Prince Ezeakonobi Madumere, has congratulated the people of Mbaise on the annual Iriji Mbaise, describing the New Yam Festival as a celebration of culture, unity and the enduring communal spirit of the people.

Madumere, who is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Imo East Senatorial District, said the festival has a special meaning for him because of his connection to Mbaise. He described Iriji as more than a celebration of the yam harvest, saying it reflects hard work, gratitude, family values and community life.

The former deputy governor said Mbaise people have continued to preserve their cultural identity with pride despite changes over the years. He noted that the festival brings together sons and daughters of the land from Nigeria and the diaspora to reconnect with their roots, celebrate achievements and discuss the development of their communities.

“Mbaise is my root, and I am always proud to identify with the strength, dignity, enterprise and resilience of our people. Iriji Mbaise reminds us that whatever heights we attain in life, we must never forget where we come from,” Madumere said.

He also described the New Yam Festival as a symbol of thanksgiving and hope, saying the effort behind every harvest should remind people of the importance of patience, diligence and collective action.

Madumere congratulated traditional rulers, community leaders, farmers, women, youths and other members of the Mbaise community on the celebration. He urged residents to use the occasion to promote peace, unity and stronger bonds among the various communities.

The former deputy governor further called on younger people to learn about and preserve Mbaise traditions, stressing that a strong understanding of one’s heritage can provide a firm foundation for the future.

Madumere wished the people of Mbaise a peaceful and memorable Iriji celebration, expressing hope that the new harvest would bring greater prosperity, peace, unity and abundance to families across the community.
