Real Madrid have reportedly revived their interest in Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi, with manager Jose Mourinho said to have approved a potential move for the Spain international.

According to TEAMtalk, Zubimendi has returned to Real Madrid’s list of midfield targets this summer as Mourinho looks to strengthen his options in the centre of the pitch.

The 27-year-old joined Arsenal from Real Sociedad last year in a deal worth €65 million and played an important role as the Gunners secured the Premier League title.

However, Zubimendi’s role reportedly diminished towards the end of the campaign. He started only one of Arsenal’s final six matches, with his only start coming in the Champions League final as Mikel Lewis-Skelly was preferred in midfield for other key fixtures.

The arrival of Bruno Guimaraes at the Emirates has now added to concerns within Zubimendi’s camp about his long-term role under Mikel Arteta. There are reportedly fears that the midfielder may no longer be as central to the Arsenal manager’s plans as initially expected.

That situation could open the door for Real Madrid, who are looking to add another midfielder to their squad. Mourinho is understood to have identified the position as an area that needs strengthening after the club missed out on Rodri.

Zubimendi’s familiarity with Spanish football and his experience at the highest level could make him an attractive option for Madrid. However, any potential transfer would depend on Arsenal’s willingness to part with a player who only joined the club last year.

For now, the reported interest puts Zubimendi’s future under renewed scrutiny, with Real Madrid potentially ready to take advantage if the midfielder’s concerns over his role at Arsenal grow.
