The Nigerian military has relocated the tactical headquarters of Operation Enduring Peace (OPSH) in Plateau State from Jos to Mangu Local Government Area in response to growing security threats in the region.

The move comes after a series of violent attacks in Mangu communities, including the recent assault on Binper Village that left more than 25 people dead.

The Commander of OPSH and General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division Nigerian Army, Maj-Gen. Williams Dangana, said the relocation was aimed at strengthening military operations and reducing response time during emergencies.

Speaking during the relocation ceremony on Wednesday, Dangana said establishing the headquarters closer to affected communities would allow security commanders to monitor developments directly and take faster action.

“Establishing a physical presence in Mangu will enable leadership to maintain direct, real-time assessment of the security situation and ensure timely tactical responses,” he said.

The army chief disclosed that the relocation was supported with additional troops, equipment and logistics approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Waidi Shaibu.

“My being here is not just in person. I’m here with enablers, additional manpower and all the resources required to execute this mandate,” Dangana stated.

As part of efforts to restore peace, the military has also introduced Operation Hard Nut, a new offensive strategy designed to dismantle armed groups and tackle insecurity across Mangu and neighbouring communities.

Dangana assured residents that troops would maintain a continuous presence in the area, adding that operations would focus on removing threats and creating lasting security for residents.

The relocation is expected to improve coordination between security agencies, community leaders and other stakeholders as the military intensifies efforts to end renewed violence that has caused deaths and displacement across parts of Plateau State.
