Yayi Mourns Ogogo, Reveals Support for Late Actor’s Medical Treatment

Ogun State APC governorship candidate Solomon Adeola has mourned veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, revealing that he and his family supported the actor’s medical treatment during his final illness.

Adeola, popularly called Yayi, said Ogogo’s death was especially painful after the actor’s prolonged battle with illness and the efforts made to aid his recovery. He issued the tribute jointly with his wife, Temitope Adeola, on Monday.

The senator said he remained close to Ogogo and his family during the difficult period, providing support for his treatment and doing everything possible to help him access the medical care he needed.

“We remained hopeful and prayerful that he would overcome the illness and return to the family, friends and countless admirers who cherished him. Sadly, despite all efforts, it has pleased Almighty God to call him home. Indeed, God knows best,” Adeola said.

Adeola described Ogogo as more than a veteran actor, calling him a “dear brother” and a proud son of Ilaro and Ogun West. He said the actor’s more than four-decade career brought entertainment to generations and made a major contribution to the growth of Nigeria’s film industry.

The politician also extended his condolences to Ogogo’s wife, children, relatives, colleagues and associates, as well as residents of Ilaro and Yewaland. He prayed that Allah would forgive the actor’s shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.

Ogogo’s daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, had previously acknowledged Adeola’s assistance during their father’s illness. Kaira had specifically thanked the politician for helping the family with the actor’s medical expenses when they appealed for medical intervention.

Ogogo died at about 3pm on Sunday, August 23, 2026, aged 66, after battling stage-four cancer. His remains were taken to Ilaro, Ogun State, where he was buried according to Islamic rites on Monday.

The late actor was one of the most recognisable figures in Yoruba-language cinema, with a career spanning more than 40 years and hundreds of film appearances. His death has triggered tributes from colleagues, fans, political figures and members of the entertainment community across Nigeria.
