Edo Security Corps Operative Killed in Cult Attack as Four Suspects Arrested

A personnel of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), Martins Enahoro, has been killed during an alleged cult attack in Ewatto, Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The incident occurred at about 12:20 pm on Sunday, August 23, 2026, after the police received a distress call over an attack on Enahoro by suspected members of the Aro Berger confraternity.

The Edo State Police Command said four suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident. The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said two of those arrested admitted during preliminary investigation to belonging to the Vikings and Aiye confraternities.

Police said Enahoro attempted to defend himself during the confrontation and allegedly stabbed one of his attackers, identified as Gbozia, whose surname was not immediately known. Another suspected attacker was identified as Gezo, also without a known surname.

Enahoro and Gbozia both sustained injuries during the confrontation and were taken to God’s Will Hospital in Ewohimi for treatment. However, doctors on duty reportedly confirmed both men dead, after which their remains were deposited at the mortuary pending further investigation.

The four arrested suspects have since been transferred to the Area Command Headquarters for further investigation, while the police said efforts were continuing to locate other suspects who fled the scene.

The latest incident adds to concerns over cult-related violence in parts of Edo State, where rival confraternity activities have repeatedly raised security concerns. The police said attacks on security personnel are criminal offences and warned that such acts would not be tolerated.
