Bandits Allegedly Kill Niger Traditional Ruler After Warning Them To Stay Away From Community

Suspected bandits have allegedly killed the Village Head of Galla in Niger State’s Borgu Emirate after attacking his palace, in the latest incident to raise concerns over insecurity in the area.

The traditional ruler was reportedly killed on Monday, August 24, 2026, after he allegedly warned the bandits against entering or operating around his community.

Sources said the warning was perceived as an insult by the suspected bandits, who later targeted the traditional ruler at his palace. Details surrounding the attack remain limited.

The deceased was reportedly the brother of the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi.

The killing has added to growing concerns about the security situation in parts of the Borgu Emirate, where banditry and other security threats have reportedly increased in recent times.

When contacted, the Niger State Police Command spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, acknowledged the inquiry and said he would provide further details.

However, no official statement had been released by the police spokesperson as of the time of filing this report.
