Nigerian Army Recovers 97 Rustled Livestock From Suspected Terrorists in Kano

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 1 Division have recovered 97 rustled livestock from suspected terrorists during an operation in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State.

The operation was carried out late Tuesday night in Mai Nika Ward after soldiers reportedly received intelligence about suspected terrorist activity in the area.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the development in a post on X on Thursday, saying troops moved into the area at about 10:50 p.m. and engaged the suspected terrorists.

The attackers reportedly fled during the confrontation, abandoning 67 livestock. Troops subsequently searched the surrounding area and recovered an additional 27 animals, bringing the total number of recovered livestock to 97.

The animals were later returned to their owners in the presence of the Gwarzo Local Government Chairman and representatives of other security agencies.

The operation comes amid continued security concerns in parts of northern Nigeria, where livestock rustling has remained a major challenge for rural communities and has often been linked to criminal and terrorist activities.

The recovery is expected to provide relief to affected livestock owners while highlighting the role of intelligence-led military operations in disrupting criminal activities in vulnerable communities.
