Atlético Madrid Block Julián Álvarez Move to Barcelona, Refuse Transfer Talks

Barcelona’s hopes of signing Julián Álvarez have suffered a major setback after Atlético Madrid firmly ruled out negotiating the Argentine striker’s transfer to the Catalan club.

Atlético’s Board of Directors unanimously backed the decision, making it clear that the Spanish side has no plans to discuss a deal with Barcelona despite reported interest in the forward.

The Madrid club said it remains willing to engage in transfer discussions with other clubs, but insisted that such negotiations must be based on professionalism, ethics and mutual respect. Atlético, however, claimed Barcelona had failed to meet those standards.

“FC Barcelona have not met these requirements and, as a result, there have been no negotiations, nor will there be any negotiations with them regarding the transfer of Julián Álvarez,” Atlético said in its statement.

The club also said its board was fully aware of the situation and supported the position it had previously communicated. Atlético expressed confidence that Álvarez would understand the decision and remain focused on helping the team achieve its objectives.

Álvarez joined Atlético Madrid from Manchester City and has become a key player for the Spanish club since his arrival. Atlético pointed to his contributions during his two seasons at the club and indicated that it expects the Argentina international to continue playing an important role.

Barcelona’s interest had fuelled speculation that Álvarez could make a move to Camp Nou. However, Atlético’s latest statement appears to close the door on any direct transfer negotiations between the two clubs.

For now, Álvarez remains an Atlético Madrid player, while Barcelona will have to look elsewhere if it wants to strengthen its attack.
