Phyna Predicts Collapse of Nigeria’s Streaming Industry, Warns Against Clout-Chasing

Reality TV star and streamer Phyna has warned that Nigeria’s growing streaming industry could collapse if creators continue to depend heavily on virality, stunts and controversial content to attract viewers.

Phyna made the prediction during a recent livestream with Jeffrey Benson, where she criticised what she described as the growing culture of “clip farming” among Nigerian streamers.

She argued that many creators are gaining attention by deliberately creating outrageous moments and making claims simply because such content is likely to go viral and generate streams.

According to Phyna, the trend could become a problem for the industry because streamers are increasingly prioritising online hype over developing clear niches, meaningful content and long-term impact.

The former reality TV star admitted that she was also highly energetic and controversial when she began streaming but later decided to tone down her approach. She explained that she could not sustain the same level of intensity as some of her male counterparts.

“Streaming in Nigeria will soon collapse because Nigerians push streamers that clip farm, go crazy and tell lies just to entertain streams. I was crazy when I started but I decided to chill because I am a lady and I can’t keep up with that,” Phyna said.

She urged fellow streamers to focus on producing meaningful content rather than constantly chasing online attention and clout. Her comments come as livestreaming continues to attract a growing audience in Nigeria, with creators competing for viewers, engagement and monetisation.

Phyna’s remarks have sparked a wider conversation about whether the country’s streaming boom can develop into a sustainable digital entertainment industry or whether its reliance on controversy and viral moments could eventually hurt its growth.
