Atiku Claims Tinubu Is 90, Says He Has Evidence to Prove Age in Court

Former Vice President and 2027 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu is 90 years old, insisting that he has evidence to support the allegation.

Atiku made the claim in an interview with the BBC published on Friday, as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election. He said he would be prepared to present the evidence in court if the issue becomes the subject of legal proceedings.

The former vice president also defended his decision to seek the presidency again, despite having contested several times in the past. He said his persistence was driven by his long-standing opposition to military rule, previous disqualifications and his belief that he remains constitutionally qualified to seek the office.

Atiku said he is ready to serve Nigeria and pointed to his experience, competence and patriotism as reasons he should be considered by voters. He argued that his age and health should be compared with those of other presidential contenders.

“You have a President who is 90 years old now and sick and I am healthy and strong. So why won’t I make myself available to serve my country?” Atiku said.

He added: “You went and voted for someone who is 90 years old. I have evidence that President Tinubu is 90 years old and I will present it in court.”

Atiku also criticised the Federal Government’s handling of insecurity, blaming what he described as irresponsibility in the defence and policing sectors. He pledged that, if elected in 2027, his administration would tackle the security crisis within its first year in office.

President Tinubu has previously maintained that he was born on March 29, 1952, which would make him 74 in 2026. Atiku’s claim therefore directly contradicts the President’s publicly stated date of birth. No evidence supporting Atiku’s 90-year-old claim was included in the material provided for this report.
