Mary Njoku: Some Men Feel Emasculated When Wives Become More Successful

Nollywood actress Mary Remmy Njoku has sparked a conversation about money and relationships, arguing that some men struggle to accept it when their wives become more financially successful.

Njoku shared her views on Instagram while discussing how couples can respond when a woman begins earning significantly more than her husband. She said women often celebrate their husbands’ financial success because they see it as a victory for the entire family.

The actress, however, said the same reaction is not always guaranteed when the roles are reversed. According to her, some men may begin to feel threatened, inadequate or disrespected when their wives start earning substantially more, even when the women have done nothing to create such feelings.

“When the woman starts earning significantly more, some men begin to feel emasculated, inadequate, or disrespected. Even when she has done absolutely nothing to make them feel that way,” Njoku said.

She also pointed to how financial differences can affect disagreements between couples. Njoku said arguments that previously had nothing to do with money may suddenly be linked to the woman’s higher income.

“Suddenly, every little disagreement becomes, ‘It’s because you have money more than me.’ And that’s the real issue,” she said.

Njoku suggested that the underlying problem may be insecurity over what a woman’s success represents for her husband. She maintained that a woman becoming more successful should not make her partner feel inferior or turn the relationship into a competition.

The actress urged men who genuinely love their partners to celebrate their achievements rather than allowing financial success to damage their confidence or relationship. She ended her message with a blunt observation about male ego: “But their Ego no go gree.”
