The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), Professor Ikechukwu Dozie, has warned the public about a fake Facebook account allegedly using his name and photograph.

The university said the account does not belong to the Vice-Chancellor and urged members of the public to avoid engaging with whoever operates it.

FUTO Public Relations Officer, Orakwe Ezugwu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Owerri, Imo State.

Ezugwu said the university management had been alerted to a Facebook account using the name and photograph of Prof. I.N.S. Dozie. He stressed that the Vice-Chancellor does not operate any personal Facebook account.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Vice-Chancellor does not operate any personal Facebook account. Consequently, any Facebook account claiming to belong to Prof. I.N.S. Dozie is fake, and has no connection whatsoever with the Vice-Chancellor,” the statement said.

The university cautioned social media users against responding to messages from the account or providing money, gifts or personal information. It also urged anyone who encounters similar accounts to report them directly to Facebook and notify the university.

The warning comes as prospective students and admission seekers await the release of FUTO’s latest admission list. The university’s management therefore advised members of the public to rely on official channels for information and avoid individuals seeking to exploit the admission process through fraudulent social media accounts
