Ogun Police Arrest Suspect Over Alleged Gang Rape of 19-Year-Old in Ijebu-Igbo

Police in Ogun State have arrested a 20-year-old man, Ayomide Kamula, over the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old woman in the Oke Sopen area of Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu North Local Government Area.

Kamula was arrested on Tuesday after the victim’s mother reported the incident at the Ijebu-Igbo Divisional Police Station. Police operatives subsequently visited and secured the reported crime scene as part of efforts to recover relevant evidence.

Confirming the arrest on Thursday, Ogun State Police Command Deputy Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, said the victim was taken to the General Hospital for medical examination and treatment under survivor-centred procedures.

Opeyemi said preliminary investigations led to Kamula’s arrest, adding that the suspect is currently in police custody and is being interrogated by investigators.

The police spokesperson identified another alleged participant as Boye Balogun, who reportedly fled after the incident. He said intelligence-led operations had been intensified to locate and arrest the suspect, who remains at large.

The incident reportedly occurred on August 30, 2026, at the victim’s residence in Odo Idi Scale, Oke Sopen, Ijebu-Igbo. The victim’s mother formally reported the matter to police on September 1 at about 10:10 a.m.

The case is now being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the alleged attack and described sexual and gender-based violence as a serious crime that would not be tolerated. He assured the victim’s family and the public that the command would pursue a thorough investigation and work to bring the fleeing suspect to justice.
