Delta Police Rescue Abducted Woman After Overnight Search in Sapele

The Delta State Police Command has rescued a woman who was abducted by armed men along the Eko-Amukpe Road in Sapele Local Government Area of the state.

The woman was rescued unharmed after police operatives from the Sapele Division, supported by local vigilantes, conducted an overnight search for the kidnappers.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Warri.

Edafe said the incident occurred at about 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, when the woman was ambushed by armed men at the entrance of her residence while attempting to drive into her compound.

According to the police spokesperson, the suspects fired several shots into the air before taking the woman into a nearby bush.

Following the distress report, the Divisional Police Officer of the Sapele Division mobilised patrol and surveillance teams to the scene. Police operatives recovered expended AK-47 ammunition shells during an initial assessment of the area.

The police, assisted by local vigilantes, subsequently launched an intensive search of the surrounding bushes. The operation continued throughout the night into Thursday morning, September 3.

Edafe said the sustained pressure from the search teams forced the kidnappers to abandon the victim and flee, after which she was located and rescued.

The woman has since been reunited with her family, while the police command said efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

The command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies as investigations into the incident continue.
