Kaduna Governor Uba Sani Approves Salary Increase, Security Allowances for Emirs, Chiefs

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has approved an upward review of salaries and allowances for Emirs, Chiefs, District Heads and Village Heads across the state.

The approval covers traditional rulers across Kaduna’s three senatorial districts and is aimed at improving their welfare while strengthening their capacity to perform their roles at the grassroots.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, announced the decision in a statement issued on Wednesday and made available on Thursday. The statement quoted the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Sadiq Mamman Lagos, as saying the salary review was designed to give traditional rulers greater support in carrying out their responsibilities.

Beyond the salary adjustment, Governor Sani has approved monthly security allowances for all 35 Emirates and Chiefdoms in Kaduna State. The allowance will take effect from September 1, 2026, with the government expecting it to improve grassroots intelligence gathering and support security agencies in the fight against crime and other security threats.

Mamman Lagos said the measures reflect the administration’s recognition of traditional institutions as key partners in grassroots governance, peace-building, conflict resolution and security. He noted that traditional rulers are closely connected to their communities and can help identify emerging threats, pass useful information to security agencies and settle disputes before they worsen.

“With this enhanced support comes greater responsibility,” Mamman Lagos said, urging traditional rulers to step up efforts to promote peaceful coexistence, build trust and encourage harmony among Kaduna’s diverse ethnic and religious communities.

Maiyaki said the approvals underline Governor Sani’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions and providing them with the support needed to contribute to peace, security and development across Kaduna State.

He also called on residents to work with traditional rulers and security agencies by providing timely and credible information that can help protect lives and property and make the state safer.
