NSCDC Arrests Four Suspected Drug Dealers in Kano, Recovers Pregabalin, Diazepam, Marijuana

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested four suspected illicit drug dealers during a covert operation in Gaida, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.

The suspects were apprehended by personnel of the Counter Terrorism Unit attached to the NSCDC’s Dorayi Babba office in Gwale Local Government Area following what the command described as credible intelligence.

The NSCDC Kano State Command identified the suspects as Abubakar Abdullahi, 35; Rabiu Baffa, 25; Aminu Lawan, 35; and Ibrahim Idris, 33. All four are residents of Gaida, where the operation was carried out.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed the arrests in a statement made available to journalists on Monday. He said the suspects were taken into custody after the intelligence-led operation at their location.

Items reportedly recovered during the operation included four sachets of Pregabalin 300mg capsules, popularly known as “PG”, dozens of Diazepam tablets locally called “Fara”, and three tubes of Oshin Solution, also known as “Sholisho”.

Security operatives also recovered three large packs and 20 parcels of suspected marijuana from the suspects. The exhibits are expected to form part of the evidence to be examined during further investigation.

The NSCDC Kano State Commandant, Mohammed Agalama, warned members of the public, particularly young people, against the sale, distribution and abuse of illicit drugs. He described drug abuse as a major threat to public safety, security and the wellbeing of society.

Agalama said the four suspects and the recovered items would be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano after preliminary investigation by the NSCDC. The NDLEA is expected to conduct further investigation and take any necessary legal action.

The command also urged residents to provide security agencies with credible information about suspected drug-related activities, assuring the public that such information would be handled confidentially.
