Air Peace, United Nigeria Top Nigeria’s Flight Delay List as 4,765 Flights Disrupted in August — NCAA

Nigerian domestic airlines recorded 4,765 flight delays and 36 cancellations in August 2026, with Air Peace and United Nigeria accounting for some of the highest disruption figures, according to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

The aviation regulator disclosed the figures in its August summary of domestic airline flight operations published on Sunday, showing that 15 carriers operated 7,961 flights during the month. The NCAA said roughly six out of every 10 flights did not operate on schedule.

Air Peace operated the highest number of flights during the period, with 1,864 departures recorded. Of that number, 1,330 were delayed, giving the airline a delay rate of 71.4 per cent.

United Nigeria recorded the highest delay rate among the airlines listed. The carrier operated 1,231 flights, of which 943 were delayed, while eight flights were cancelled — the highest number of cancellations recorded by any airline during the month.

Enugu Air also recorded significant disruptions, with 582 delays from 878 flights and four cancellations. The NCAA said the figures reflected varying levels of delays across the domestic aviation sector.

Of the 4,765 delayed flights, 2,801 were held up for between 16 minutes and one hour, while another 1,322 experienced delays lasting between one and two hours. A further 407 flights were delayed for between two and three hours, while 235 experienced delays of three hours or more.

Air Peace accounted for 108 of the 235 delays lasting at least three hours, followed by Enugu Air with 46 and United Nigeria with 41. The figures make the three carriers the biggest contributors to the month’s longest flight disruptions.

The NCAA, however, commended Umza Air for recording the best performance among the carriers. The airline had 52 delays from 403 flights and recorded no cancellations. Xe Jet followed with 40 delays from 127 flights.

Other airlines also recorded varying levels of disruption. Aero recorded 246 delays from 469 flights, Arik had 188 from 301, Ibom Air recorded 254 from 560, Max Air had 204 from 336, Rano Air recorded 216 from 503, Value Jet had 435 from 767, Green Africa recorded 114 from 226, Overland had 139 from 239, while Binani recorded 22 delays from 57 flights.

NG Eagle did not operate any flights during the month, according to the NCAA.

The latest figures highlight the continuing challenge of flight punctuality in Nigeria’s domestic aviation sector, where delays can affect passengers, connecting journeys and airline schedules across the country.
