Kano Court Orders Special Care for Man Accused of Cutting Off Finger for N80m

A Kano State Sharia Court has ordered correctional authorities to provide special care and medical attention to Yusuf Mahmud Rano, a man accused of cutting off his finger after allegedly being promised N80 million for it.

The order was issued by the court sitting in Jogana as proceedings continued in the case involving Yusuf and four other defendants accused of conspiracy and attempted sorcery.

The court had been expected to deliver judgment on Monday but postponed the decision after the judge, Malam Kamalu Haruna, said government lawyers were expected to take part in the proceedings.

Justice Haruna adjourned the matter until Thursday, September 17, 2026, and ordered the first to fourth defendants to remain in custody until the next hearing.

He also directed the Kano State Correctional Service to ensure that Yusuf receives adequate medical attention and appropriate care while in custody.

The Kano State Police Command had charged Abdurrahman Abbas Kwasamgwami Gezawa, Sha’aibu Yawale Daganawa Bunkure, Abubakar Iliyasu Zangon Dakata, Ishaq Isah Rano and Yusuf Mahmud Rano in connection with the case.

The defendants reportedly pleaded guilty to the charges at the previous sitting, according to the information presented to the court.

The case will return to the Sharia Court on September 17, when further proceedings are expected to take place.
