Adamawa Police Arrest Two Over Alleged Theft of Bamanga Tukur’s Irrigation Pipes

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested two men over the alleged theft of irrigation pipes worth N3 million from the farm of the late elder statesman and former Gongola State governor, Bamanga Tukur.

The arrests were announced on Friday, less than a week after Tukur’s death. The incident reportedly occurred at his farm in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, identified the suspects as 45-year-old Ibrahim Mohammed of Wauro Jabbe and 28-year-old Jemilu Yahaya, a scavenger from Jambutu Bypass.

Nguroje said operatives attached to the Kofare Divisional Police Headquarters in Yola arrested the men following what he described as credible intelligence.

“The suspects, 45-year-old Ibrahim Mohammed of Wauro Jabbe and 28-year-old Jemilu Yahaya (a scavenger from Jambutu Bypass), were arrested by operatives attached to the Kofare Divisional Police Headquarters in Yola following credible intelligence,” the police spokesman said.

According to the Command, preliminary investigations indicated that Mohammed allegedly stole eight underground irrigation water pipes from the farm before selling them to Yahaya. The pipes were estimated to be worth N3 million.

Police said they recovered the stolen irrigation pipes along with one Carry-go motorcycle believed to be connected to the incident.

The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. Nguroje said they would be charged to court after the completion of the investigation.
