Sola Ebiseni Resigns as Afenifere Secretary-General, Joins APC

The Secretary-General of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Sola Ebiseni, has resigned from his position after leaving the Labour Party for the All Progressives Congress.

Ebiseni announced his resignation and political realignment during a meeting with Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa at the Government House in Akure.

The former Labour Party chieftain also declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office.

Ebiseni, who served as the South-West Coordinator of Peter Obi’s Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 general elections, explained that his decision was influenced by his view that the presidency should remain in southern Nigeria for reasons of political stability.

“Our declaration today for the President’s second term is in tandem with the views of most Nigerians and political gladiators that the office of the President should still be in southern Nigeria in the interest of the political stability of the federation,” he said.

He also linked his decision to his position as a leader of the Ilaje coastal people of Ondo State, citing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project as a major development of interest to his community.

“Politics is local, and as a leader of my Ilaje coastal people of Ondo State, this road is the most significant life-changing project for us, and I am here to join President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for its full implementation, particularly its proper coastal alignment in the state,” Ebiseni said.

Receiving Ebiseni and his supporters, Governor Aiyedatiwa assured them of full integration into the APC campaign structure ahead of future elections.

Aiyedatiwa said Ebiseni’s political experience, including his time as chairman of the former Ilaje-Ese-Odo Local Government and his service as a commissioner in Ondo State, would be useful to the party’s campaign efforts.

The governor also referenced Ebiseni’s former role as Afenifere Secretary-General and his participation in other socio-political organisations as part of the experience he brings to the APC campaign
