Crude Oil Imports Through Lagos Ports Fall 38.6% in September

Crude oil imports through Lagos ports fell by 38.6 per cent in September 2026, with 1,470,109 metric tonnes recorded during the month, compared with 2,392,354 metric tonnes imported in August.

The Lagos import data was revealed on Tuesday, although the figures cover only the first 22 days of September, meaning the final volume could change before the month ends.

According to the Shipping Position obtained from the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), petroleum products and other major commodities also recorded significant import volumes during the period under review.

Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, recorded the highest import volume among the petroleum products listed, with 526,500 metric tonnes brought into the country.

Aviation Turbine Fuel (JET A1) followed with 167,000 metric tonnes, while Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel, accounted for 82,500 metric tonnes.

Bulk wheat imports also stood at 173,483 metric tonnes during the period.

The figures show varying import volumes across major petroleum products and other commodities handled through Lagos ports in September.

However, the NPA data does not include crude oil imports through the Lekki Deep Sea Port.

As a result, the September figure does not represent the total volume of crude oil imported into Nigeria during the month, as additional imports handled through Lekki are excluded from the data.
