Tipper Truck Crushes Motorcycle Passenger to Death in Lagos

A yet-to-be-identified adult male passenger on a motorcycle has been crushed to death after a sand-laden tipper truck collided with the motorcycle at Ilasa Bus Stop, inward Mile 2, Lagos State.

The fatal crash occurred at about 3:18 p.m. and involved a tipper truck marked 19F 992FG and a motorcycle, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the agency’s Eagle Response Team stationed at Cappa was mobilised after receiving a distress call and arrived at the scene within about 15 minutes.

A preliminary assessment indicated that the tipper driver allegedly lost control of the truck before ramming into the motorcycle from behind.

“Tragically, an adult male passenger on the motorcycle lost his life as a result of the collision,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

LASEMA responders, working alongside paramedics from the Lagos Response Unit, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and police personnel, took control of the scene.

The deceased’s remains were recovered by emergency responders and handed over to family members present at the scene. The damaged tipper truck and motorcycle were subsequently removed from the carriageway and taken to Ilasamaja Police Station for further investigation.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the emergency operation was completed and normal traffic flow was restored in the area. He expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and urged motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, to exercise caution and comply with traffic regulations.
