NPFL: Ogunbote Worried Over Plateau United’s Missed Chances Despite Win Against Inter Lagos

Plateau United technical adviser Gbenga Ogunbote has called on his players to improve their goalscoring ability after their 2-0 victory over Inter Lagos in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The Peace Boys secured the win in their Matchday Six encounter at the New Jos Stadium on Sunday, with Gideon Monday and Jibrin Ibrahim scoring in the second half.

Despite the victory, Plateau United missed several clear-cut chances in the opening half, preventing them from taking a more commanding lead in the game.

Ogunbote admitted that his team’s inability to convert scoring opportunities remained a concern, stressing the need for greater composure in front of goal.

“I think it is worrisome, no doubt. Every coach wants to win from the first minute of the game, but sometimes anxiety and other things will cost a team,” Ogunbote told the club’s media.

The experienced coach said his players were wasteful in the first half and acknowledged that the problem was not limited to Plateau United.

“In the first half, I think we were wasteful. It has been a problem not only with Plateau United. It’s something that affects other clubs too,” he said.

The victory extended Plateau United’s unbeaten run in the league to five matches, keeping them among the teams competing near the top of the standings.

The Jos-based club currently sit second on the NPFL table with 11 points from six matches.

Ogunbote will now look to build on the positive result while working to improve his team’s finishing as the league campaign continues.
