2027: COSEYL Backs Orji Kalu for Another Term in Abia North

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has declared support for the re-election of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu as the representative of Abia North Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.

The group said its position followed what it described as an extensive assessment of Abia North, including consultations with its structures, stakeholders and residents across the district.

In a statement signed by its President-General, Goodluck Ibem, and Publicity Secretary, Okey Nwaoru, COSEYL said it believes Kalu has made significant contributions to the district since returning to the Senate.

The group cited road construction and rehabilitation, school projects and empowerment programmes among the interventions it attributed to the senator.

COSEYL claimed that more than 100 rural and urban roads had been constructed, reconstructed or rehabilitated across communities in Abia North. It also attributed the construction and renovation of more than 100 classroom blocks and the provision of educational materials to Kalu.

The group further said Kalu’s constituency interventions had benefited youths, women, farmers and entrepreneurs through training and other empowerment programmes.

At the National Assembly, COSEYL described Kalu as an influential senator whose experience and network have helped advance issues concerning the South East and Nigeria.

The youth group also criticised unnamed political opponents who, it said, were seeking to challenge Kalu’s political position in Abia North.

COSEYL subsequently called on indigenes and residents of Abia North, including those in the diaspora, to support Kalu’s bid for another term.

The endorsement comes as political activities increase ahead of the 2027 elections, with Kalu and other political actors already engaging constituents across Abia North. Recent reports also indicate that Kalu has been conducting ward-to-ward consultations in the district.

COSEYL’s declaration represents the position of the group and does not determine the outcome of the 2027 Abia North senatorial election.
