Anambra Invites Investors as Mixed-Use Industrial City Nears Launch

The Anambra State Government has opened discussions with potential investors ahead of the launch of its Mixed-Use Industrial City, with infrastructure, power, water supply and security identified as key requirements for the project.

The decision was among resolutions reached at the 14th meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council held on Monday, September 28, at the Light House in Awka, according to Commissioner for Information Law Mefor.

The state government has previously identified the Mixed-Use Industrial City as a major part of its industrial development plans for 2026, with the project expected to support manufacturing and private-sector investment.

Mefor said the council also discussed preparations for Nigeria’s Independence Day celebration on October 1, urging residents to participate in this year’s activities. The state government is expected to host its celebration at Ekwueme Square in Awka.

The council was further informed that Uga Boys Smart Boarding Secondary School was still admitting students. Mefor said only prospective boarding students would be considered because available spaces for day students had already been filled.

On education infrastructure, the council approved integrity tests for students’ hostels across the state to help ensure the safety of school facilities. The state’s Material Testing Laboratory will also be upgraded, while steps will be taken to strengthen the law governing its operations.

Another major decision was the restructuring of law enforcement groups operating in the state. According to Mefor, the move is intended to reduce overlapping responsibilities and the proliferation of enforcement bodies, while improving coordination, accountability and effectiveness.

The council also resolved to repossess and repurpose government lands that have been illegally occupied. The government said the decision followed reports of encroachment and the need to make more land available for public projects, warning occupants to vacate the affected properties.

Meanwhile, the state government confirmed that the second edition of its Onwa Dezemba programme will take place in December 2026. The programme is expected to retain several activities from the 2025 edition while featuring documentaries highlighting how communities across Anambra celebrate the Yuletide season.

The latest decisions form part of the Soludo administration’s wider push to strengthen infrastructure, attract investment and expand industrial activity in Anambra. The state government has described the Mixed-Use Industrial City as a key component of its broader economic transformation agenda.
