Kebbi Government Orders Civil Servants to Resume by 8am, Warns Against Lateness

The Kebbi State Government has ordered civil servants across the state to strictly observe official working hours, warning that lateness and unauthorised absence from duty will not be tolerated.

The directive requires workers to report to their duty posts by 8:00 a.m. and remain at work until 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. It was contained in a circular issued by the Head of the Civil Service, Malami Shekare, on September 23, 2026.

Shekare said the directive became necessary after observations that some civil servants had developed the habit of arriving late or staying away from their offices without official communication or approval.

“The approved official working hours for the State Civil Service are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, and all civil servants are expected to strictly adhere to them,” he said.

The Head of Service said the prescribed hours are provided for under Chapter 13, Section 4, Sub-section 140122 of the Public Service Rules, 2021 Edition. He directed workers to be punctual and comply with the approved schedule.

Shekare also warned that any lateness or absence from duty must be formally communicated to and approved by the appropriate authority.

He directed heads of ministries, departments and agencies across the state to ensure that all staff members are informed of the directive and comply with the working-hour requirements.

The circular was addressed to senior government officials, including the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, permanent secretaries and heads of commissions, boards and parastatals.
