Roma Rule Out Dybala, Molina From Messi’s Farewell Match Against Benin

AS Roma have ruled out Argentina internationals Paulo Dybala and Nahuel Molina from Lionel Messi’s farewell match against Benin on October 6.

The Italian club said the decision was based on sporting and logistical considerations, particularly the length of the intercontinental journey and the proximity of the players’ club commitments.

Roma confirmed the decision in a statement released on Tuesday, while acknowledging the significance of the occasion for both players.

Dybala and Molina were members of Argentina’s squad that won the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and have shared the national team dressing room with Messi.

“The Club recognises the importance of this appointment for the two players, who are linked to Lionel Messi and played a key role in his victory at the 2022 World Cup,” Roma said.

The club stressed that the decision was not a sign of disrespect towards Messi or a reflection of the importance it attaches to the farewell event.

“AS Roma expresses its utmost respect for Lionel Messi and his extraordinary career, wishing him and the Argentine Federation a special evening,” the club added.

The Argentina-Benin fixture is scheduled for October 6 and is expected to form part of celebrations marking Messi’s international career.

Dybala and Molina will therefore miss the occasion despite their previous roles alongside Messi in Argentina’s national team and their involvement in Argentina’s World Cup triumph in Qatar.
