Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has called for prayers and divine guidance as the All Progressives Congress begins preparations for the 2027 general elections in the state.
Abiodun spoke at an interfaith prayer organised by the Ogun APC Campaign Council and tagged “Victory with God”, where Christian and Muslim faithful gathered to pray for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party’s Ogun governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.
The governor said the gathering was designed to place God at the centre of the party’s preparations for the 2027 electoral cycle. He urged party members to continue seeking divine guidance as they embark on the political journey.
“We have come here to gather, to pray, to sing, to dance. Both Christians and Muslims are to seek the Almighty’s face and His grace as we embark on the 2027 electoral journey,” Abiodun said.
Reflecting on his emergence as Ogun governor in 2018, Abiodun described the political period as “rancorous” and “turbulent”, saying the experience strengthened his belief that political power remained subject to God. He also spoke about what he described as achievements recorded by his administration over the past seven and a half years.
Abiodun further highlighted Ogun’s transition process, saying the state had witnessed what he described as the first peaceful transition between a sitting governor and an incoming governor. “My prayer is that that same God that has started this for us, He will not only complete it but He will perfect it in Jesus mighty name,” he said.
Adeola, who is seeking to become Ogun State governor in 2027, also expressed confidence in the APC’s prospects, saying he believed the party would secure victory. He said he expected divine intervention to clear the way for his ambition and suggested there would be no serious opposition to the APC on election day. These were Adeola’s political assertions, rather than established facts about the election outcome.
The prayer event comes as the Ogun APC expands its campaign structure ahead of the election. The party recently unveiled its 2027 governorship campaign council, with Abiodun as chairman and Adeola as co-chairman, alongside other senior party figures including former governors Olusegun Osoba, Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun.
