Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, says more than 380 suspects have been arrested and over 230 convictions secured within the first two months of the state’s intensified campaign against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
Yusuf disclosed this on Thursday while speaking at the 66th Independence Anniversary celebration held at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium in Kano.
The governor said his administration established the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in July 2026 as part of efforts to tackle the spread of illicit substances, thuggery and other criminal activities.
He added that the government subsequently issued an Executive Order to strengthen enforcement measures and coordinate the response of relevant agencies.
According to Yusuf, the task force has also dismantled several drug joints and criminal hideouts across the state since its establishment.
The governor described the fight against drug abuse and criminality as a collective responsibility requiring the involvement of security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, communities, parents and other citizens.
He urged young people to stay away from drugs, violence and criminal activities, encouraging them instead to pursue education, agriculture, technology, entrepreneurship, vocational skills and opportunities in the creative industries.
Yusuf said his administration would continue to provide support to security agencies, improve community-based intelligence gathering and tackle the social conditions that contribute to crime and insecurity across the state.
