The Ekiti State Government has declared Monday, October 5, 2026, a work-free day for teachers across the state to enable them participate in activities marking the 2026 World Teachers’ Day.

The State Commissioner for Education, Dr Olabimpe Aderiye, announced the decision in a statement issued on Thursday, saying the arrangement was intended to give teachers the opportunity to join colleagues and education stakeholders in commemorating the annual event.

As a result of the declaration, all day students in public schools across Ekiti State are expected to remain at home on Monday.

Aderiye urged parents and guardians to take note of the temporary change to the school schedule and make the necessary arrangements for their children and wards.

She also called on school authorities and students to comply with the directive and plan accordingly for the work-free day.

The commissioner commended teachers across the state for their dedication, professionalism and commitment to educating and nurturing young people.

She said teachers play a vital role in strengthening the state’s education system and shaping the future of Ekiti children.

Aderiye congratulated teachers on the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration and assured them that the state government would continue to recognise and support their contributions to education.

The work-free day is therefore expected to allow teachers to participate fully in the state’s activities marking the annual celebration while public day students observe a one-day break from classes.
