Fourteen Super Falcons players have arrived in camp as Nigeria begins preparations for the 2028 Olympic qualifying tie against Comoros.
The Nigeria women’s national team confirmed the development on Monday, with the players assembling ahead of the two-legged second-round qualifying contest.
The players currently in camp are Farida Abdulwahab, Tumininu Adeshina, Joy Igbokwe, Fatimoh Solaty, Christiana Uzoma, Blessing Nkor, Valentina Uroko, Glory Edet, Sandra John, Shukurat Oladipo, Shakirat Moshood, Glory Ogbonna, Favour Omenazu and Suliat Abideen.
Interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen had named a 28-player squad for the Olympic qualifying assignment, with the remaining invitees expected to join the team before the first leg.
Nigeria will host Comoros in the first leg on Friday, October 9, before the return fixture on Tuesday, October 13.
Both matches will be played at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo. Comoros will use the Nigerian venue for both fixtures because it does not have a stadium approved by the Confederation of African Football for international matches.
The Super Falcons received a bye into the second qualifying round and therefore did not play in the opening stage of the competition.
Comoros, meanwhile, secured its place in the second round after a remarkable 30-0 aggregate victory over Sudan in the first round.
Nigeria must progress through the qualifying stages to secure one of Africa’s two available places in the women’s football tournament at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
More players are expected to join the Super Falcons camp as preparations intensify ahead of the opening encounter on Friday.
