INEC to Publish Final 2027 Governorship, Assembly Candidate List October 10

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will publish the final list of candidates contesting the 2027 governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections on Saturday, October 10, 2026.

The commission disclosed this in a statement on X on Wednesday, quoting its chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, as making the announcement during a world press conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

The publication will mark another major step in INEC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, with political parties expected to have their candidates formally confirmed for the state-level contests.

The electoral commission also provided updates on the number of political parties that have submitted candidates for the elections, as well as the voter register and the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards.

INEC further addressed preparations involving election technology and funding as the commission continues its planning for the 2027 polls.

The final candidate list is expected to provide voters and other stakeholders with an official record of the candidates cleared to contest the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.
