The Kano State High Court No. 2 has sentenced Auwalu Adamu, a resident of Yantaji Village in Jigawa State, to death by hanging after finding him guilty of culpable homicide.
The court, presided over by Justice Yusuf Ubale, also sentenced Adamu to life imprisonment for armed robbery.
Justice Ubale delivered the judgment on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, in a case prosecuted by the Kano State Government under Sections 221(b) and 298(c) of the Kano State Penal Code, Cap. 105, Laws of Kano State 1991, as amended.
The case stemmed from an incident on July 31, 2021, at Kwarin Makera in Gamoji Village, Gaya Local Government Area of Kano State.
Adamu was accused of attacking Saleh Audu Barau at about 8pm and repeatedly stabbing him in the face with a knife.
During the trial, the prosecution called five witnesses before closing its case. Adamu later testified in his own defence but did not present any additional witnesses.
After considering the evidence and submissions from both sides, the court found Adamu guilty of the charges and imposed the respective sentences.
Reacting to the judgment, Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, commended the Chief State Counsel, Barrister Hannatu Abdulmalik, for her commitment and professionalism during the prosecution.
Maude said the judgment reflected the ministry’s determination to pursue justice, particularly in cases involving the protection of lives, property and the interests of Kano residents.
He also reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to working with the judiciary, security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure criminal cases are properly prosecuted in accordance with the law.
