The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Adeniyi Benjamin, for allegedly operating an unlicensed medical facility and treating patients without the required medical qualifications or licence.
Benjamin was arrested on October 2, 2026, at about 3pm by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit at Life Is Good Hospital in the Olodo area of Ibadan.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the arrest followed intelligence received about the suspect’s activities at the facility.
According to the police, Benjamin was found attending to patients and administering treatments, particularly fertility-related treatments, despite allegedly not being a certified medical doctor.
Police said operatives recovered two weighing scales, four Quantum Magnetic Resonance Body Analysers, a stethoscope, assorted medicines and specimen bottles from the facility.
The command said preliminary investigations showed that Benjamin had allegedly operated as an unlicensed practitioner for about seven years. Police also said he admitted specialising in fertility-related treatments.
Ayanlade said the case raised concerns about the risks posed to members of the public who may unknowingly seek treatment from unqualified practitioners, particularly in sensitive areas such as fertility care.
The police said investigations were ongoing to establish the full extent of the alleged activities and determine whether other people were involved in operating the facility.
The command said appropriate action would be taken in line with the law as the investigation progresses, while urging residents to verify the qualifications and registration status of anyone offering medical services.
Police also appealed to residents to report suspicious medical facilities or individuals claiming to be medical practitioners without verifiable credentials to the police or relevant regulatory authorities.
