Premier League Managers Cautious Over Manchester City Financial Verdict

Premier League managers have largely avoided taking a strong position on Manchester City’s financial-rule verdict ahead of the league’s return this weekend.

City were found guilty of breaching the majority of the 115 financial rules they were accused of breaking. The club has appealed the decision, leaving several managers reluctant to comment extensively while the process remains ongoing.

Coventry City manager Frank Lampard, who played for Manchester City during the 2014-15 season, said he would wait for the outcome of the appeal before forming a stronger view on the case.

“We’ve all seen the news, it’s obviously big news, Man City are appealing,” Lampard said. “What can you say when an appeal is going on? I’m not inside the story, I’m outside it completely.”

Lampard added that his previous association with City was limited to his one season at the club and said he was not familiar with the timeline or details of the appeal.

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke was similarly unwilling to weigh in, insisting that other people were better placed to discuss the matter.

“Not my topic. My topic is football. There are more qualified people to speak on this,” Farke said.

He added that it made little sense for every Premier League manager to offer an opinion on a case in which they had not been directly involved.

The verdict has intensified scrutiny around Manchester City as they prepare for their meeting with Liverpool on Sunday. Manager Enzo Maresca is expected to face questions about the ruling during his upcoming media engagement, with the financial case likely to remain a major talking point.

City’s appeal means the final consequences of the verdict remain subject to the ongoing process, while attention now turns to how the club and its players respond on the pitch when Premier League action resumes.
