A notorious bandit kingpin identified as Kachalla Mu’azu and six members of his gang have reportedly been killed in a clash between rival armed groups in Zamfara State.
Counter-terrorism expert Zagazola Makama said the incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, around Mada in Gusau Local Government Area.
According to Makama, Mu’azu and his associates were returning from Yankara Market when they were ambushed by members of a rival armed group who had reportedly laid in wait along their route.
The ambush triggered a confrontation between the rival groups, during which Mu’azu and six of his associates were reportedly killed.
Makama described Mu’azu as a prominent bandit commander allegedly linked to criminal activities and attacks affecting communities in Gusau and other parts of Zamfara, as well as neighbouring areas of Katsina State.
He said the reported death of the kingpin could have implications for the activities of armed groups operating around the Gusau axis, although it remains unclear whether the development will result in any immediate change in the security situation.
Mada is located in the eastern part of Gusau Local Government Area, about 32 kilometres from Gusau town, while Yankara lies along the Gusau-Funtua axis.
Makama said security agencies were expected to continue monitoring the area and gather further information about the rival groups involved in the clash.
