Suspected Lakurawa Terrorists Kill Two Soldiers, Chinese National in Kebbi Highway Attack

Suspected Lakurawa terrorists have killed two Nigerian soldiers and a Chinese national in an attack on a highway construction site in Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The attack occurred at Gubba Village, where workers were engaged in the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway project. Police said the soldiers were providing security for the Chinese national and other workers at the site when the gunmen struck.

Two civilians were also injured during the attack and taken to a medical facility for treatment. The identities of the victims and the full circumstances surrounding the assault were not immediately disclosed.

The killings have raised fresh concerns about the safety of construction workers and foreign personnel involved in major infrastructure projects in Nigeria’s North-West, a region that has faced persistent security challenges.

In a related incident, troops repelled an attack on a military base in Maiyama, according to the military.

Following the encounter, troops recovered 17 motorcycles, a machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and a communication device. The recovered items could provide security agencies with material for further investigation into the attackers and their activities.

The military said troops remained in control of the area as security operations continued to track down the fleeing assailants.

Police also confirmed that a manhunt had been launched to apprehend those responsible for the killings.

The incidents highlight the security challenges facing communities and infrastructure projects in Kebbi State, as security agencies continue efforts to contain armed groups operating in the North-West.
