Kufre Udosen, Special Adviser to Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno on Political and Social Orientation, has been ordered to vacate a rented one-room store in Ikot Abasi over 11 years of unpaid rent.

The eviction order was issued by a Magistrate Court in Ikot Abasi District after a dispute over a property belonging to Ime Archibong Akpan at No. 245 Ibekwe Road, Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom State.

Court proceedings indicated that Udosen’s one-year tenancy expired in December 2015. He was accused of neither renewing the tenancy nor vacating the premises despite repeated appeals from the landlord.

The property owner subsequently approached the court to recover possession of the store and obtain payment of the outstanding rent. The case was filed under suit number MOP/RP.78/2025.

In its judgment delivered on August 17, 2026, Chief Magistrate Nsikak Ibanga said the defendant had failed to appear in court, enter a plea or present a defence throughout the proceedings.

The court ordered Udosen to surrender vacant possession of the property on or before October 9, 2026. It also directed him to pay N540,000 in rent arrears through the Assistant Chief Registrar of the court.

In addition, the ruling required him to pay N5,000 monthly from October 2025 until he hands over the premises, as well as N10,000 in legal costs.

The court further authorised its bailiff to force open the doors of the premises if Udosen failed to comply with the order to surrender possession, allowing the landlord to regain access to the property.

However, Udosen challenged the ruling, describing the judgment as erroneous. He said he was unaware of the notice and disclosed that he had appealed the Magistrate Court’s decision.

The appeal introduces a new development in the dispute, although the available information does not establish whether the judgment has been stayed or whether any further court order has been issued.
