The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter, has urged the Federal Government to use the findings of the investigation into the October 5 aircraft crash in Ondo State to strengthen aviation safety and prevent similar tragedies.
The association said the investigation should provide important lessons for improving safety standards following the deaths of 25 Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel in the crash.
The NMA FCT Chairman, Dr George Ebong, and Secretary, Arome Adejo, made the call in a joint statement issued on Friday.
The aircraft reportedly crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State, on October 5, 2026, killing all 25 personnel aboard. The Nigerian Air Force subsequently commenced an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also declared three days of national mourning in honour of the deceased personnel.
Reacting to the tragedy, the NMA FCT Chapter expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the deaths as a painful blow to the victims’ families, colleagues and the country.
The association extended its condolences to President Tinubu, the leadership and personnel of the Nigerian Air Force, and the families and loved ones of those who died.
It also expressed solidarity with the Air Force and the bereaved families, while paying tribute to the courage, dedication and sacrifices of the deceased personnel.
In the statement, the association prayed for strength and comfort for the families and colleagues of the victims as they come to terms with the loss.
Beyond its condolences, the NMA stressed the importance of the ongoing investigation and called for its findings to be used to improve aviation safety.
“We welcome the ongoing efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and trust that the outcome of the investigation will provide valuable lessons for strengthening aviation safety and preventing similar tragedies in the future,” the statement said.
The association’s call places renewed attention on the need for a thorough investigation and the implementation of any safety recommendations arising from the findings.
