Adamawa Police Arrest Suspect Accused of Impersonating Inspector to Steal Motorcycle

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old man accused of attempting to steal a motorcycle while impersonating a police inspector in Girei Local Government Area.

The suspect, identified as Habila Ibrahim, was arrested on October 10, 2026, after police operatives responding to a distress call intercepted him along the Girei–Yola Road, according to the command.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the command said the operatives were conducting a crime-prevention patrol when they received the report of an attempted motorcycle theft.

“On 10th October 2026, operatives of Girei Divisional Police Headquarters, while on crime-prevention patrol along the Girei–Yola Road, responded to a distress call and intercepted the suspect while attempting to steal a Boxer motorcycle belonging to Alhaji Musa of Wuro Dole, Girei,” the statement said.

Police Recover Uniform and Suspected Theft Tools

The command said officers recovered a complete police uniform, a fake police warrant card and a master key suspected to have been used in motorcycle theft from the suspect.

During initial interrogation, Ibrahim allegedly identified himself as Inspector Yakubu Yusuf and claimed to be attached to the Border Patrol Unit at the Sahuda–Cameroon border.

Police said he gave the name and claimed affiliation in an attempt to evade arrest.

Further investigation reportedly established his identity as Habila Ibrahim, from Blue House, Kasuwan Gada, Vimtim, in Mubi North Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Suspect Linked to Alleged Thefts Across Three LGAs

The police said Ibrahim was suspected of involvement in motorcycle theft and impersonating security personnel to facilitate theft and defraud members of the public.

According to the command, the alleged activities were being investigated in connection with Girei, Mubi North and Mubi South local government areas.

The police have not announced a final conclusion to the investigation, and the allegations against the suspect remain subject to the legal process.

The command said Ibrahim would remain in police custody while investigations continued and would be charged in court when the investigation was concluded.
