Nollywood actress Yetunde Barnabas has accused fellow actress Ajefunke Kofoshi of misleading the public over their dispute, insisting that Kofoshi was arrested rather than merely invited by the police.
Barnabas made the claim in a social media response after Kofoshi shared a video featuring both actresses and reportedly described her encounter with the police as an invitation.
The dispute had earlier escalated, with Barnabas announcing that she had taken legal action over posts she considered defamatory to her person and professional work.
In an earlier statement, the actress said Kofoshi had been asked to remove the allegedly defamatory posts and issue a public apology through a video.
Barnabas later disclosed that they had “finally faced off legally,” adding that she was willing to let the matter go in the interest of peace, provided certain conditions were met.
However, Kofoshi’s subsequent video and account of the encounter prompted another response from Barnabas, who insisted that her colleague had been arrested and had pleaded for forgiveness.
“You were picked up and arrested; you begged and admitted your wrongdoing and begged me, so I let it go for the sake of peace because there’s nothing in this life,” Barnabas wrote.
The actress also claimed that Kofoshi had asked her to make a video about the dispute and that she agreed after warning her against insulting other people.
Barnabas urged Kofoshi to stop what she described as an attempt to misrepresent the incident to the public.
“Do not mislead the public,” she added.
The disagreement has drawn attention to the actresses’ conflicting accounts of their encounter with the police and the steps taken to resolve their dispute.
As of the time of this report, the available account does not include an independent police confirmation of the circumstances surrounding the encounter or an official response resolving the conflicting claims.
