Taraba Community Leader Announces Arrest of Suspected Armed Robbery Gang Member

A community leader in Taraba State, King Eltopzy, has announced the apprehension of a suspected member of an armed robbery gang allegedly operating in the Shavoh and Yagai areas.

Eltopzy disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, stating that the operation also led to the recovery of a motorcycle allegedly stolen from his residence and two air conditioners reportedly stolen within the community.

He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting efforts to protect lives and property in Shavoh and neighbouring communities, urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security personnel to tackle insecurity.

The community leader also cautioned against the politicisation of security incidents, insisting that the safety of residents should take precedence over political interests.

According to him, some individuals were allegedly exploiting the security situation to promote their preferred political candidates rather than supporting collective efforts to address the challenges facing the community.

“Community security is beyond politics. The safety of our people must never be sacrificed on the altar of political desperation,” Eltopzy said.

He further expressed concern over the alleged spread of misinformation, urging residents and political actors to verify information before sharing it publicly.

Eltopzy stressed the need for responsible public communication, cooperation with relevant security agencies and a collective commitment to restoring and maintaining peace in the area.

He also called on residents to report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities and allow security personnel to carry out their duties professionally and lawfully.

The community leader maintained that security should remain a priority and urged residents to set aside political differences and work together towards building a safer and more peaceful environment in Shavoh and surrounding communities.
