Kwankwasiyya Accuses ADC, Atiku of Lacking Clear Plans for Nigerians Ahead of 2027

The Kwankwasiyya movement has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of failing to clearly explain what they would offer Nigerians ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The movement alleged that the ADC was relying on the influence of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), to strengthen Atiku’s presidential ambition.

The spokesperson for the Kwankwasiyya movement, Dr Habibu Sale Mohammed, made the allegations on Daily Trust TV’s Day Break programme on Monday while reacting to comments by the NDC vice-presidential candidate over the weekend ruling out an alliance with the ADC.

Mohammed said political parties should focus on presenting their policies, ideas and capabilities to Nigerians instead of blaming their electoral prospects on politicians who decline to join them.

“Politics should be played by presenting yourself, your ideas, your capacities and capabilities for Nigerians to make the right choice,” he said.

He alleged that the ADC had calculated that bringing Obi and Kwankwaso into its fold would improve Atiku’s chances of contesting the presidency, regardless of whether Nigerians considered him the best candidate.

Mohammed argued that the ADC’s position reflected a lack of clarity about what the party intended to offer the electorate, adding that protecting democracy should remain a priority.

He also accused the ADC of relying too heavily on the possibility of securing support from Obi and Kwankwaso, claiming that the party was struggling to address its political challenges because the two figures were not part of its plans.

Mohammed further accused the ADC of attempting to portray Kwankwaso as working in the interest of President Bola Tinubu.

“They want to continue to use this slogan until they believe every Nigerian believes that Kwankwaso is working for Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.

The Kwankwasiyya spokesperson also criticised what he described as the ADC’s suggestion that its potential failure at the polls would be caused by Obi and Kwankwaso refusing to join the party.

He maintained that political parties should take responsibility for their own electoral prospects rather than blame individuals who choose different political platforms.

Mohammed defended the relationship between Kwankwaso and Obi, saying their partnership was based on a shared understanding rather than political convenience.

He said the two politicians had agreed to work together and insisted that Kwankwaso was entitled to speak publicly about their political relationship.

According to Mohammed, Kwankwaso and Obi had previously been associated with the ADC but left because, in his view, the party had failed to provide a level playing field for its members.

He also claimed that some Nigerians viewed the ADC as a vehicle for advancing Atiku’s presidential ambition, arguing that voters should have access to a credible alternative rather than being forced to choose between what he described as “the evil and the lesser evil”.

The allegations come amid ongoing political realignments and discussions over possible alliances ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election.
