Nigeria’s Super Falcons have dropped seven places in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings, falling from 36th to 43rd globally, according to rankings released on Tuesday.
Despite the decline, the 10-time African champions retained their position as the highest-ranked women’s national team on the continent, maintaining their lead over other African sides.
South Africa, Morocco, Ghana and Zambia occupy the second to fifth positions in Africa, respectively, according to the ranking report.
The Super Falcons’ slide follows a disappointing run at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where Nigeria were eliminated in the quarter-finals after defeats to Malawi and Cameroon, as reported in the source material.
Nigeria also suffered a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the playoffs for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, adding to the team’s recent setbacks on the international stage.
However, the Nigerian side recorded two victories over Comoros in the qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games, providing a positive result amid their mixed run of performances.
At the global level, Spain retained the top position in the women’s rankings, ahead of the United States, Germany, England and Japan. The top five remained unchanged in the latest update.
The next FIFA Women’s World Rankings are scheduled for release on Monday, December 7, 2026. The Super Falcons will be looking to improve their global standing while maintaining their dominance in African women’s football.
