The ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has disrupted examinations and other academic activities at Taraba State University, Jalingo, raising concerns among students and parents over the institution’s academic calendar.
The university’s Registrar, Dr Joseph Umar Bibinu, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the industrial action had created uncertainty within the university community, particularly as students were in the middle of examinations.
According to the statement, the strike began on Monday, October 12, 2026, interrupting scheduled academic activities and raising questions about when the affected examinations would be completed.
The university management also disclosed that the Taraba State Government had set up a committee to review the salary structure of staff in the state’s tertiary institutions as part of efforts to address the issues surrounding the dispute.
The management expressed hope that ongoing dialogue between the government and relevant stakeholders would produce a resolution and pave the way for the resumption of normal academic activities.
Meanwhile, the university urged students to remain calm and refrain from actions that could threaten peace and order on campus while efforts to resolve the dispute continue.
Students were also advised to follow official university announcements for reliable information on the strike, the rescheduling of examinations and the eventual resumption of academic activities.
The disruption has added uncertainty to the academic calendar at the institution, with students and parents awaiting further updates as discussions aimed at resolving the dispute continue.
