Troops Arrest Suspected Berom Militia Member Over Fulani Man’s Killing in Plateau

Troops have arrested a suspected Berom militia member in connection with the killing of a Fulani man identified as Alhaji Aminu in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Aminu reportedly died from gunshot injuries sustained during an attack at Dumak Kobpar in the local government area.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the incident in a post on X on Wednesday, citing security sources.

According to the report, the shooting occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, when Aminu was allegedly shot by an armed youth identified as Piyaplong, said to be from Dumak community.

Makama said Aminu sustained gunshot injuries during the incident but later died from his wounds.

The suspect was reportedly arrested after the shooting and is expected to assist investigators in determining the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The killing comes amid persistent security concerns in parts of Plateau State, where communal tensions and violent attacks have continued to challenge peaceful coexistence among communities.

Security authorities are expected to investigate the incident and establish the motive behind the shooting.

Residents have been urged to remain calm and refrain from actions that could trigger reprisals or further escalate tensions in the area.
