INEC Uploads Preliminary Voters’ Register for 2027 Elections After Public Outcry

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded Nigeria’s preliminary voters’ register for the 2027 general elections after facing criticism over its failure to make the document available online during the scheduled inspection period.

The commission had displayed the register physically at registration areas across the country from October 9 to 15. However, the absence of online access prompted concerns from Nigerians and political stakeholders, who called for a more convenient way to verify voters’ details.

INEC has now made the preliminary register available through its dedicated online portal, enabling registered voters to check their particulars and identify any errors or discrepancies.

The online publication provides an additional opportunity for voters to review their information, particularly those who may have found it difficult to inspect the register physically during the designated period.

The commission said it was still processing claims and objections relating to the preliminary register before producing the final list. The final voters’ register is scheduled for publication on December 15, 2026.

The latest development follows criticism directed at INEC over the delay in providing online access during the original inspection window. The availability of the register on the portal is expected to help registered voters review their details ahead of the next general elections.

Registered voters can visit display.inecnigeria.org to check their information in the preliminary register. They should review their particulars carefully and follow INEC’s official guidance on reporting any errors or discrepancies before the final register is published.
