The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, questioning his credibility and saying his promises cannot be trusted.

Wike made the remarks on Tuesday during the unveiling of candidates supported by the Rainbow Coalition in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The minister recalled his past political relationship with Atiku, claiming he was one of the former vice president’s biggest sponsors during the 2019 general elections.

He also said he contested against Atiku during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primary in 2022, which Atiku eventually won.

“I was one of Atiku’s biggest sponsors in 2019. I ran with him in the 2022 presidential primaries,” Wike said.

The FCT minister went on to question Atiku’s trustworthiness, warning others against relying on his word.

“I pray you never know him. He’s not a man whose word you can take to the bank,” he added.

The relationship between the two politicians deteriorated following the PDP presidential primary in 2022. Their disagreement continued into the 2023 general elections, when Wike worked against his party’s presidential campaign and supported Bola Tinubu, who went on to win the election.

Wike’s latest comments highlight the continuing political rift between him and Atiku, who is identified in the report as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate.
