The Nasarawa State Police Command has intensified security operations in Keana Local Government Area, conducting clearance exercises in Chekwe and Kwara forests to dislodge suspected criminals and dismantle their hideouts.
The operation, carried out on Wednesday, October 28, involved personnel of the Police Mobile Force (PMF), conventional police officers and tactical teams deployed across the area.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the operation began in Kadarko before proceeding through Angwan Alaku, where the operatives crossed a river on their way to Chekwe Forest.
The security team subsequently advanced through Ansa Village and Angwan Yara to Kwara Forest, where officers combed the forest and surrounding areas in search of suspected criminal hideouts.
The Command said the clearance operation was designed to deny suspected criminal elements safe havens, restrict their movement and prevent activities that could threaten the safety of residents.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, said the police were taking the fight against crime directly to locations believed to be used as hideouts.
“The Command will not wait for criminals to threaten the peace and safety of citizens before taking action,” Mohammed said.
He explained that the Command would continue deploying proactive and intelligence-led strategies to identify and address security threats while operating within the framework of the law.
The police commissioner called on residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or through established police communication channels.
Mohammed assured the public that information provided to the police would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property through sustained security operations and cooperation with members of the public.
The police statement did not specify whether the forest clearance exercises resulted in arrests, the recovery of weapons or other operational findings.
