Liberia have handed Niger Tornadoes goalkeeper Derrick Daddy Julu his first national team call-up ahead of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying double-header against Cape Verde.

Julu earned the invitation after an impressive run of performances for the Nigeria Premier Football League side, keeping three clean sheets in four appearances for Niger Tornadoes this month.

The call-up marks a significant milestone for the shot-stopper, who will now have an opportunity to represent Liberia on the international stage as the Lone Star seek to revive their qualifying campaign.

Liberia are scheduled to travel to Praia to face Cape Verde in their Matchday Three encounter on Friday, November 13, 2026.

The two sides will meet again four days later in Monrovia, where Liberia will host the Blue Sharks in a Matchday Four fixture.

The Lone Star head into the double-header under pressure after losing their opening two matches in the qualifying series. They began their campaign with a 3-1 away defeat to Rwanda before suffering a narrow 1-0 loss at home to Mali.

Those results have left Liberia searching for their first points of the campaign, making the upcoming fixtures important to their hopes of progressing in the race for a place at AFCON 2027.

Julu’s recent form for Niger Tornadoes could give Liberia another option in goal as they prepare for the crucial encounters. However, whether he features in either match will depend on the team’s selection and tactical decisions.
